Meet Lia Rochas-Pàris, the talented soul behind the art work of the sleeve and accessories of The Collage Box.⁠⁠

Lia is a true Parisian, born out of a marriage between a Swiss-German mother and a Portuguese father. She is a dancer, he was an artist. Lia is also the mother of 9-year old Liv, a role she takes up wonderfully. I get inspired by people that have so many layers in their identity, and Lia embodies that layeredness perfectly, making it impossible to box her.⁠ Besides being a renowned collage artist, she has also created Comme Un Roman-Photo, an archive of memorable conversations with personalities from the cultural world discussing the creative process. In 2019, she published her first book. She writes, photographs and makes videos. ⁠

When spending time with her, you immediately notice how literate she is.

A dedicated work ethic and an unquenchable thirst for life, culture and creativity mark the way she acts and talks.

I arrived to her atelier on a Saturday night, she had invited me for an apéro with two of her closest friends. When I came in, the table was dressed as a work of art. Small platters with cut figs, olives and grapes, a centerpiece of a tarte aux poireaux and an entire cauliflower came steaming out of the oven, accompanied by the tastiest hummus I ever tried. The generosity, the atmosphere and the countless glasses of wines, made me feel exactly where I wanted to be. The conversations were vibrant, and the topics we discussed travelled all over the globe. We ended up dancing surrounded by her artwork before I hopped into a taxi through Paris to get home feeling so inspired and simply happy.

Lia’s collages feel like small parallel universes where time, gravity, and proportions are suspended.

The way she playfully explores the shapes and emotions of the female body, infusing it with elements of the natural world, truly triggered me. She makes surrealistic art works where strength, fragility and femininity come together to find a new equilibrium. ⁠

Being able to dive into the world of Lia Rochas-Pàris has been a privilege, and I feel so proud to include two of her collages to MAIWE’s universe for our seasonal gifts.

The Collage Box has been created as a tribute to the female identity, to the unique layers that come together and make us who we are.
